چکیده

Abstract Background Gossypium hirsutum L. ( cotton) is one of the most economically important crops in world due to its significant source fiber, feed, foodstuff, oil and biofuel products. However, utilization cottonseed was limited presence small darkly pigmented glands that contain large amounts gossypol, which toxic human beings non-ruminant animals. To date, some progress has been made pigment gland formation, but underlying molecular mechanism formation still unclear. Results In this study, we identified an AP2/ERF transcription factor named GhERF105 (GH_A12G2166), involved regulation pigmentation by comparative transcriptome analysis leaf glanded glandless plants. It encoded ERF protein containing a converved AP2 domain localized nucleus with transcriptional activity, showed high expression cotton accessions contained much gossypol. Virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) against caused dramatic reduction number significantly lowered levels gossypol leaves. patterns spatiotemporal inducible Conclusions These results suggest contributes biosynthesis partial organs plant. also provides potential basis generate ‘glandless-seed’ ‘glanded-plant’ cultivar.

Molecular cloning and expression analysis of GhLOF genes in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).

Shoot branching, i.e., the timing and position of shoot growth, determines to a large extend the pattern of plant architecture, and is the result of the integration of a plant's genetic background and environmental cues. Many genes that are involved in the formation and outgrowth of axillary buds have been cloned, but the exact mechanism is still unclear. Branching pattern is an important agron...

Molecular cloning and expression analysis of five GhRAXs in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.).

The formation of axillary meristems in leaf axils is a prerequisite for the development of lateral shoots, which largely contribute to plant architecture. Several transcription factor-encoding genes, including CUC3, RAX, LAS, LOF1, and ROX, have been cloned by screening for axillary meristem mutants in Arabidopsis thaliana. These genes will facilitate our understanding of the mechanisms underly...

Identification and characterization of CONSTANS-like (COL) gene family in upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

The CONSTANS/FLOWERING LOCUS T (CO/FT) regulon plays a central role in the control of flowering time in photoperiod-sensitive plants. Flowering time in wild cotton (Gossypium spp.) has strict photoperiod sensitivity, but domesticated cotton is day-neutral. Information on the molecular characterization of the CO and CO-like (COL) genes in cotton is very limited. In this study, we identified 42 C...

Characterization and Functional Analysis of PEBP Family Genes in Upland Cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.)

Upland cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) is a naturally occurring photoperiod-sensitive perennial plant species. However, sensitivity to the day length was lost during domestication. The phosphatidylethanolamine-binding protein (PEBP) gene family, of which three subclades have been identified in angiosperms, functions to promote and suppress flowering in photoperiod pathway. Recent evidence indica...
